Classical Judaism

The classical period of Judaism goes from the end of the first century c.e. through the seventh century when Muslim forces conquered Palestine and the surrounding area. The Jews who lived in this period lived under the threat of Roman political oppression, sometime leading to violent consequences. Several decades after the destruction of the Temple in 70 c.e., the Jews staged a revolt against the Romans, ending in 135 c.e with a Roman victory. Following this victory, the Romans forbid the Jews to inhabit the Palestine region. The Jews lived away from their homeland and maintained their religious identity. This is known as Diaspora
